Silent Signal at QUAD, Derby

The six Silent Signal artworks will be in exhibition at QUAD Gallery, Market Place, Cathedral Quarter, Derby DE1 3AS

A resource pack exploring the ethical and societal context of the science will be available in the gallery.

 

Friday 5 February, 7–9pm – Preview +artists and scientists talk

Join us for the launch of Silent Signal at QUAD to discover first hand about the collaboration behind each artwork from the artists and scientists. Refreshments will be served, and there will be events around QUAD for the young and old!

Friday 26 February, 10am-5:30pm – Silent Signal Symposium at the College of Arts, University of Derby

Taking Silent Signal as a departure point for a broader look at collaboration at the intersection of art, science and technology, the day will feature a keynote address by curator Hannah Redler, plus presentations from the Silent Signal collaborators, and panel discussions with those from the fields of both art and science.

The symposium will be followed by a drinks reception at QUAD and an opportunity to explore the exhibition.

Saturday 27 February – Pop Up Play with Genetic Moo
FREE for all age groups

Pop Up Play (PUP) is an immersive interactive digital tool that uses Microsoft Kinect to put you in the action of your own scenes and stories. We’re teaming up with interactive artists Genetic Moo to explore PUP and the world of cells, genetics and foreign bodies (good and bad), inspired by their artwork Battle of Blister in the Gallery. Booking Recommended.

Saturday 5 March, 3–4pm – Talk by Dr Megan MacLeod
FREE

Dr Megan MacLeod collaborated with moving image artist and director Eric Schockmel to produce Immunecraft for the Silent Signal project. Megan is a Research Fellow at the University of Glasgow, and her research aims to improve our understanding of how the immune cells, CD4 T cells, regulate immune responses in infection and autoimmunity. Join her for a special talk for International Woman’s Day on the public’s perception, and disappearance, of women from science and why this might be. Booking Recommended.
