SUMMARY:Blister Cinema workshop at Phoenix
DESCRIPTION:Genetic Moo collaborated with Dr Neil Dufton\, whose research investigates the roles that genes\, proteins and gases play in regulating the body’s response to inflammation\, to develop their animated film Battle of Blister. \nThe artists will run a drop in workshop in the Cafe bar\, to demonstrate their interactive app Multiple which they used to make the film Battle of Blister and which you can use to generate your own multi-coloured animations. They’ll explain the science behind the project and give you a glimpse of the coding techniques they used to talk to the Kinect sensor. \nBring your own props and be prepared to dance yourself into a bacterial frenzy!

SUMMARY:Silent Signal at the Expanded Animation Symposium
DESCRIPTION:Producer Abigail Addison will present on Silent Signal\, followed by a screening of the six animated works. The presentation will explore how each project provides a creative response to cutting-edge research in order to bring to life the science. It will examine the different ways the artists and scientists have worked together to find a common language\, and how each artist has engaged with their collaborating scientists’ data\, tools and processes. \nThe fourth annual Expanded Animation symposium is entitled The Alchemy of Animation in keeping with the 2016 Festival theme\, RADICAL ATOMS and the alchemists of our time. The focus is once again on the fringes of the computer animation field as well as on the reciprocal interaction of animation and technology. This year’s three featured topics are science\, society and industry\, which will be discussed from a variety of perspectives by three panels made up of animation filmmakers\, curators\, scientists\, VFX artists and prizewinners in the Prix Ars Electronica’s Computer Animation/Film/VFX category.

SUMMARY:Silent Signal: Cascade at Central Saint Martins
DESCRIPTION:An evening of art and science animations and interpretations \nCascade is a creative response to the Silent Signal project\, where students from Central Saint Martins interpret themes within the animations produced to design and deliver workshops for young people. \nStudents from MA Art and Science and MA Character Animation are working with Genetic Moo & Dr Neil Dufton (Battle of Blister) and Samantha Moore and Dr Serge Mostowy (Loop) to interpret and extend ideas addressed in the commissioned animations. Workshop ideas will be developed with Heather Barnett (MA Art and Science Course Lecturer) to design and deliver a series of workshops with young people local to Central Saint Martins in the Kings Cross area. \nThe Cascade project event will include presentations by artists and scientists commissioned for Silent Signal\, students working on the Cascade project and a screening of all six Silent Signal animations. \nFree\, but booking required. \nMA Art & Science\nThis pioneering postgraduate course responds to a fast-emerging territory for interdisciplinary and collaborative art practice. The MA Art and Science gives students an opportunity to interrogate the creative relationships between art and science and how they can be communicated. They explore different approaches to making and presenting their work with the aim of proposing and realising innovative outcomes in practice and research. \nMA Character Animation\nThe MA in Character Animation at Central Saint Martins is the leading course in storytelling animation in the UK. The course has developed from a 6 month Certificate\, through a year long Diploma to the MA we know and love today. By taking a methodical approach to animation acting and storytelling\, the students produce little gems of films that travel the world. Their films are witty\, dynamic and unique and never get stuck with a label or house style. Their students are team players and talented individualists\, who go on to work in all areas of the animation industry. \nCentral Saint Martins\nCentral Saint Martins is internationally renowned for the creative energy of its students\, staff and graduates with an outstanding reputation for educating foundation\, undergraduate\, postgraduate and research students across art\, design and performance. Fundamental to study at the College are experimentation\, innovation\, risktaking\, questioning and discovery\, within a highly supportive learning environment. SUMMARY:Silent Signal in Leipzig at 9 Evenings Revisited: In theory\, as in practice...
DESCRIPTION:Silent Signal will be screened as part of 9 Evenings Revisited: In theory\, as in practice…\, organised by ART/SCI NEXUS. \n9 Evenings Revisited: In theory\, as in practice… is a collaborative travelling art exhibition\, which explores the interface between science and art in contemporary practice. \nART/SCI NEXUS is an independent platform that enables curiosity within and between the humanities\, arts\, and sciences\, introducing professionals and the public to new creative modes of thinking. As these disciplines are epistemologically diverse\, the transgression of their borders and expansion of their frontiers could allow for new forms of scientific research and artistic practice to develop.

SUMMARY:Blister Cinema workshop with Genetic Moo

DESCRIPTION:Genetic Moo collaborated with Dr Neil Dufton\, whose research investigates the roles that genes\, proteins and gases play in regulating the body’s response to inflammation\, to develop their animated film Battle of Blister. \nThe artists will run a drop in workshop to demo their interactive app Multiple which they used to make the film Battle of Blister and which you can use to generate your own multi-coloured animations. They’ll explain the science behind the project and give you a glimpse of the coding techniques they used to talk to the Kinect sensor. \nBring your own props and be prepared to dance yourself into a bacterial frenzy! \nDrop in

\, no booking required. \nCurated by Yasmeen Baig-Clifford and presented by Vivid Projects in partnership with the annual Arts & Science Festival at the University of Birmingham\,
as part of the public engagement programme for the nationally touring Silent Signal project\, produced by Animate Projects\, supported by a Wellcome Trust Large Arts Award and the Garfield Weston Foundation\, and presented in Birmingham by Vivid Projects 18 March – 23 April 2016.
